Indigo Quilt

This is the first quilt we have created using denim! Most of us wear denim every day in the form of jeans and shirts and there probably aren’t any of us who haven’t embroidered on a denim shirt. Denim as a fabric is very easy to embroider on and doesn’t pucker. So if a versatile fabric like denim looks good on clothing it should look even better on a quilt, and it does! We will discuss how we chose our fabric later in this tutorial so lets move on to how we created the designs. We chose three sizes for the blocks in this project. A square along with a small and large rectangle, the 3 shapes all either use a plain or folded fabric background. The different backgrounds even by themselves without any stitching create a beautiful patchwork style quilt. I wanted to design a stitch effect that would fully use your machines capabilities. Instead of a single pass stitch or a triple pass stitch these stitches actually stitch up to 15 layers of thread! You will think that the designs are created using yarn instead of embroidery thread. The designs were all drawn specifically for this purpose and then hand digitized. The stitch length used in the designs range from a 5mm to a 12mm stitch, when you combine the long stitch length with the amount of passes you wind up with a stitch like nothing you have ever embroidered. We used indigo denim as our fabric but these designs will look spectacular with any fabric. These designs were all created to be used with any of our other Mix and Match collections. These rectangles and squares can be combined with our Quilting Essentials and Beautiful Blocks and Borders collections for truly spectacular results. Each of the designs in this collection come in 4 different sizes. I hope you enjoy working with the Indigo Quilt collection as much as we did.
